Yesterday’s Independent contained an interesting, if brief, article about citizens deserving frequent long weekends.
I am in favour of not only this step but going further: moving to a post-scarcity economy where we don’t need to work to fund our free time at all.
Of course, the use (or not) of new technologies to reduce working hours has less impact on me: self-employed creativity both frees me from the need to work contracted hours even when it isn’t necessary, and imposes a direct relationship between the time I put in and what I get out.
Which is why this aside about having more holidays was written on a Bank Holiday.
